Funding Successful. This project reached its goal before 31/07/2018.

The project

The World Health Organization defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”.

It is well known and supported by an increasing number of scientific publications, that meditation exerts a beneficial effect at emotional, psychological and physical level. Through the use of breathing exercises and relaxation techniques, meditation has become an important complement to traditional therapy for certain pathologies, such as psychosomatic ones, as it helps to improve and strengthen the immune system, struggling under the strain of chronic stress.

Our project would involve all citizens. How can we help the young generation successfully manage the stress faced in the imminence of examinations or job interviews? What could we do to help people achieve better results by reducing anxiety and increasing resiliency within their work/life, study/life and relationships? What could we do to help people live happier and more relaxed?

For these purposes, we are proposing/planning to set up a program that involves regular free meditation sessions, guided by an expert trainer, spanning the entire academic year.

At the same time, we plan to conduct a rigorous scientific study aimed at evaluating the causal effect of meditation on well-being, stress, resilience, via the administration, in three different times (start, end, and 6 months after the end), of ad hoc questionnaires.

These questionnaires will be the same ones that the University of Cambridge is using in their “Mindful Student Study” project to evaluate the efficacy and effect of mindfulness meditation on students. We will then compare the results from the two studies.
